Online Webinar | 2 PM, 26 November 2024Trees line a street with cars park on the road

The Branching Out project uses diverse methods to understand the values people hold towards the treescapes in UK cities. The project used archival, narrative, discussion and remotely sensed data collection methods. In this webinar we will focus on the spatial data that runs throughout, its use in understanding value and the ways that we communicate it.

In this webinar, the team will:

1. Introduce the Branching Out project.

2. Present a new monetary remotely-sensed valuation method, allowing Capital Asset Value for Amenity Trees (CAVAT) baseline values to be estimated for individual trees, at city scale.

3. Explore the challenges of linking people’s value themes to measurable tree characteristics for trees of the present.

4. Present developments in reconstructing historic treescapes from old maps and analysing their characteristics.

5. Show how design is being used to explore and communicate some of the spatial aspects of the project.
